Can I hand wash or machine wash a wool/rayon suit coat? It says dry clean only... ?

No, it says dry clean for a reason. While each of the separate fabrics are washable, they all react to water and detergent differently. The inner structure might shrink while the outer fabric doesn't, this will give the outer fabric an orange peel look. Or the outer fabric might shrink one way and the inner lining shrink a different way. Or the inner lining and padding might be completely destroyed by immersion in water. The dry cleaner is able to clean the jacket without ruining the lining or the inner structure.

You can spot treat stains, you can air it out after wearing and you can use a product such as ';dryel'; to freshen up a dry clean only jacket. But machine or hand washing suit jacket could likely ruin it.Can I hand wash or machine wash a wool/rayon suit coat? It says dry clean only... ?
